At Tidal New York we are committed to making a difference. Part of our founding mission was to help veterans returning from active duty. Since the beginning we have partnered with Heroes in Transition, a charity specializing in assistance to military families and veterans who are in need of help such as home modifications, transitional support group therapy, financial support, as well as service dogs.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, between 10 and 20 percent of veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Service dogs can be a powerful tool to fight PTSD and depression. HIT’s approach is localized and small scale, working to pair dogs with veterans on a case by case basis. To date, HIT has provided 44 dogs, and ind doing so, changed 44 lives.
Working with master dog trainer, Matt Noon of HyNoon K9, dogs are trained to recognize the stress of their owners in public situations and then help calm them. Techniques can include training dogs to place themselves between their owner and someone too close behind them in line at a store, or gently crawling into their lap at the doctor’s office.
Our goal this Veterans Day is to raise awareness of Heroes In Transition, and the amazing work they do, as well as raise the funds to train at least one service dog. We have designed an exclusive pack of sandals, of which all profits will go directly to Heroes in Transition.
